Due to the high volume of work, ongoing shortages of parts and accessories, increased shipping delays, and time-consuming COVID-19 protocols, everything is STILL taking longer than we would like. This is the safest way we can continue to do business respectful of all our wonderful customers.
F.A.Q.
Can we come inside your shop? It's cold/raining/hot/foggy out!
To assuage whatever discomfort you're feeling outside, you may come inside.
May I bring the whole family?
The store can accommodate just one party (one or two people) inside at this time.
What if someone's already inside the store? I'm cold/wet/hot/foggy!
Please wait your turn outside. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
May I test ride bikes?
You may. We love giving you the chance to fully experience a bike before purchase.
May I wander around inside your shop?
Once inside, remain in the corralled area near the front door. We can bring items to you, and will process payments for you.
How do I pay for stuff and services?
We accept Visa, MC, Discover, Amex, PayPal, cold hard cash, and checks if you have valid, in-state ID, and provide local contact info for our system.
Are you doing tune-ups? How much time and how many dollars?
We offer full repair services year-round. Lead times are long when it's warm out, shorter when it's cold. Read up here and contact us with other questions.
But I just have a quick repair/question!
We prioritize quick repairs when possible, but also need to be fair to all our great customers. We'll give you an estimate on time and cost at take-in.
I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today!
The balance for parts and services is due on pickup.
Do you have any bikes for sale?
We have some and expect more for spring. Bike supply will be volatile for at least another year. Please get in touch with specific questions.
Do you have any bikes ON sale?
Uh, no. The supply and demand curve is inverted due to the economic externality and shortfall of last year's bicycle rush. Recovery is not yet in sight.
Do you have warm stuff for cold cycling? It's still cold out!
We have cold weather gloves, hats, and balaclavas.
Do you have cool stuff for warm cycling? It's still hot out!
We have a modest selection of fingerless gloves, cycling caps, and socks.
Do you offer repair classes? I want to learn more about my bike!
Unfortunately, our space and time constraints do not allow classes. Check with The Recyclery for updates on their classes.
If you have further questions you may:
1) Complete our contact form so we can get in touch with you.
2) Put on your mask, then come inside for assistance.
3) Call 773-506-BIKE during business hours.
If you want to buy stuff please note:
Many of our brands are offering to ship their products straight to your home. That's really generous of them!
Stay home and call us for more info.
1) We're happy to package up a pre-order of anything we have in stock for you, including new bikes.
2) We are happy to discuss what's in stock with you over the phone and/or email.
3) We are happy to show you merchandise options in the corral just inside the front door.
4) We can send you photos of merchandise if that's helpful.
5) The main part of the showroom is closed to browsing until further notice.
What's next?
No one knows exactly what to do or what to expect. We don't have the answers we want, and we're all trying our best to make do. Each one of us is enduring different pressures to cope, contribute, help, or survive, yet we have a common goal and a common enemy.
How Green Machine can help
Green Machine Cycles is open for sales and service. Some of you might rely on your bike to get around town or make deliveries, or you may have become wary of public transit and want to start cycling. Solo or distanced outdoor activity is considered quite safe! We are here for you. Some of you might be thinking of the future, when this crisis will have passed, and you're envisioning lovely days bike touring a beautiful area, either near or far. We're here for you, too.
Our commitment to safety
Please understand that, as always, your safety and health comes first. Perhaps you've known that our shop stresses bike safety like few others, always presenting you many options for helmets, mirrors, lights, bells, and of course, your bike's proper and safe function.
We now extend that focus to you, personally. Know that if any Green Machine staff member has reason to believe they're not well, or that they've had contact with someone who suspects they've been exposed to coronavirus, that staff member will self-quarantine for the recommended period of time.
We're following current official recommendations for disinfecting frequently used surfaces and objects in the shop, including your bike, if it's here for repair.
We ask that if you are experiencing any of the symptoms currently known to be associated with COVID-19 that you stay home, or at least do not come to the shop.
Shopping local still matters
While we understand that it might feel safer to order items you need online at this time, we suggest that doing your shopping locally likely means fewer people have touched the goods you're after. Wait times for in-stock items are shorter, as well.
Those of you who need your bike serviced should feel confident we will do everything we can to protect your safety, including keeping our distance while speaking with you in the shop, and disinfecting your bike before we return it to you, especially the parts you touch most often: the handlebars, saddle, and top tube.
Limited delivery service
During this time of aggressive closures and distancing to reduce the infection rate we will offer some delivery services for those who don't feel safe or don't have the time to come to the shop. If your bike needs service or if there are products we typically stock that you'd like delivered please don't hesitate to get in touch either via email or phone:

More than anything we wish you good health and a calm mind during these times. If you are not comfortable shopping with us at this point we sincerely hope to see you after the threat has passed, and the sooner, the better.
Peace to you, be safe, be reasonable, and we'll see you when we see you!
