Shortages of staff and stuff in the bike industry, as well as increased shipping times and costs, mean repairs and special orders may take longer and cost more than you had expected.
Be aware, prepared, and please understand we are already performing at our capacity to deliver your products and services as quickly and professionally as possible.
The following protocols create the safest, most cost-effective, and respectful environment for us to continue providing superior service and products for all our wonderful customers. Thank you for adhering to our policies.
F.A.Q.
Can I get my bike repaired?
You may bring your bike straight to the shop with service needs, or contact us via email or phone. For general info on service, see this page.
Do I need to wear a mask inside?
You may cover your mouth and nose with a mask the entire time you're inside, although this decision is now entirely up to you.
May I bring the whole family?
Yes. Be respectful of others and give everyone room to move. It's a small space.
May I test ride bikes?
You certainly may. We love giving you the chance to experience a bike before purchase.
May I peruse your merchandise?
You may, and please ask if there's anything you can't find. Not everything is on display.
How do I pay for stuff and services?
We accept Visa, MC, Discover, Amex, PayPal, phone/tap payments, and cold hard cash. We accept checks if you're an existing customer and you provide valid, in-state ID with local contact info for our records.
Due to rising payment processing costs we assess a 1.4% convenience charge on all electronic payments over $500. No surcharge for cash or check sales.
Tune-ups? How much time and how many dollars?
We offer full repair services year-round. Lead times are generally longer when it's warm out, shorter when it's colder. Read up here and contact us with other questions.
I just have a quick repair/question!
We can often return simple repairs to you within minutes or hours, but we also need to be fair to our great customers whose bikes may have been waiting a long time for service.
I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today!
The balance for parts and services is due on pickup.
Do you have bikes for sale?
We do have bikes and will continue receiving more on a rolling basis. Bike supply and selection may be thin and volatile for some time. Please get in touch with specific questions. We can always do gorgeous custom builds for you.
Do you have any bikes ON sale?
Possibly. Please inquire. The supply and demand curve is still somewhat inverted from COVID's economic externality and the shortfall of 2020's bicycle rush. Things are getting more stable. We often have some accessories on sale.
Do you have warm stuff for cold cycling? It's cold out!
We do have cold weather gloves, bar mitts, hats, balaclavas, and cycling shoes.
Do you have cool stuff for warm cycling? It's hot out!
We have a selection of warm weather gloves, cycling caps, and socks.
Do you offer repair classes? I want to learn more about my bike!
Unfortunately, our space and time constraints do not allow any instructional activities. Check with The Recyclery for updates on their classes.
If you have further questions you may:
1) Complete our contact form so we can get in touch with you.
2) Come to the shop during business hours.
3) Call 773-506-BIKE during business hours.
Regarding COVID-19 health and supply chain issues:
What's next?
No one knows exactly what to do or what to expect. We don't have the answers we want, and we're all trying our best to make do. Each one of us is enduring different pressures to cope, contribute, help, or survive.
How Green Machine can help
Green Machine Cycles is open for sales and service. Some of you might rely on your bike to get around town or make deliveries, or you may have become wary of public transit and want to start cycling. Outdoor activities are considered quite safe! We are here for you. Some of you might be thinking of the future, when this crisis will have passed, and you're envisioning lovely days bike touring a beautiful area, either near or far. We're here for you, too.
Our commitment to safety
Please understand that, as always, your safety and health comes first. Perhaps you've known that our shop stresses bike safety like few others, always presenting you many options for helmets, mirrors, lights, bells, and of course, your bike's proper and safe function.
We now extend that focus to you, personally. Know that if any Green Machine staff member has reason to believe they've been exposed to the virus, they will get a COVID-19 test and, if positive, stay away from the shop until they have completed isolation or quarantine according to current healthcare community standards.
We ask that if you are experiencing any of the symptoms currently known to be associated with COVID-19 that you abide by current CDC best practices, or at least do not come to the shop.
Shopping local still matters
Wait times for in-stock merchandise is ZERO. It's here on the shelves and walls and all's ya gotta do is come get it. We personally use much of the stuff we sell so we're always happy to discuss what you need, what we have, and how to use it.
Those of you who need your bike serviced should feel confident we will do everything we can to protect your safety, including keeping our distance while speaking with you in the shop, and disinfecting your bike before we return it to you, if you would like us to do so.
