Custom Bike Builds

What is a custom build and why do people want one?

A custom build is typically a bike built from scratch, meaning the frame and fork and all the components are selected by the shop and owner to suit particular needs, aesthetics, or both. Most folks who opt for a custom build have a fair amount of cycling experience and want to enjoy the benefits of the highest quality assembly, as well as the bike fit and aesthetic uniqueness that only comes with custom work.

Are custom builds better than a bike off the rack?

In most cases, yes. Building or assembling from a bare frame allows us to keep tabs on every step of the process, ensuring every component is installed and adjusted perfectly. In most cases, we will also build the wheels by hand, ensuring the highest quality control, advising you on optimal components, introducing great custom colors and looks, and our three year warranty on our hand-built wheels.

How do I get started, and what does it cost?

Great questions. Call or come in a talk to us about your interest in a custom build. There is no obligation. We will work with you to procure the best frame for your purposes, then delve into component selection. We are happy to advise on bike fit and the bewildering array of accessories at the core of the bike's ultimate utility. Don't underestimate how much difference the right lights, bags, and even handlebar tape or grips make in how much you love your new bike. Prices vary widely, since frames and components vary so much. Typically, a build will range anywhere from $2,500 to over $10,000. Folks who know they want one usually understand the costs are higher than a stock bike, but well worth it, if you love bikes the way we do.
